How does email migration work?

We use IMAPSync (or Microsoft Graph / Google Workspace Migration API for those platforms) to copy all folders, messages, read/unread states, flags and attachments from source to destination, running incrementally until cutover.

How much does email migration cost in Pakistan?

Will user passwords need to change?

Yes, for security, new passwords are issued on the destination. We provide a temporary password per user that they reset on first login. Optional: keep old passwords via secure transfer if your source provider exposes them.

How long does email migration take?

500MB mailbox: 30-60 minutes. 5GB mailbox: 3-6 hours. 25GB mailbox: 12-24 hours. Migrations run in parallel so total project time depends on bandwidth, not mailbox count.

Our process

How a mailbox migration runs: five steps, under 48 hours

You give us access to the source cPanel, we back up the mailboxes and restore them on the destination, with WhatsApp updates from your Karachi engineer. Under 24 hours for up to 10 mailboxes, under 48 for bulk jobs over 50.

Request and access

Message us and share access to the source cPanel account. We confirm the mailbox list and start the same business day. If your source is a SaaS provider, we explain the separately quoted IMAP route.

Server-side backup

Each mailbox is pulled as an archive with a manifest: history, folders, attachments, aliases, forwarders, autoresponders and filter rules. Source mailboxes stay live and unchanged. 2 to 6 hours.

Restore on destination

Mailboxes are recreated with their original addresses, archives restored and aliases, forwarders and autoresponders re-applied. Both sides now hold the same mail. 4 to 12 hours.

Count check and testing

Folder and message counts are checked mailbox by mailbox against the source. You log into a few on the destination webmail yourself. MX waits for your go-ahead.

MX cutover

MX TTL is lowered to 300 seconds a day ahead. A final sync picks up mail that arrived during testing, then MX switches. Source mailboxes stay reachable through propagation, so nothing is stranded.

Why we take a server-side backup instead of only syncing over IMAP

An IMAP sync copies messages and folders well, but not the settings that live on the server: filter rules, autoresponder schedules, forwarders and aliases. A server-side backup brings those too and is faster on large mailboxes. We still run an IMAP sync at the end to catch mail that arrives during testing.

cPanel email migration questions

How much does cPanel mailbox migration cost?

It is free with any annual HostingWalay hosting plan. As a standalone job, Standard is PKR 1,499 for up to 10 mailboxes, with PKR 100 for each extra box. Past 100 mailboxes, send us the count and we will quote it. White Label, for agencies and IT consultants who need an anonymous handoff with a branded report and an NDA, is PKR 4,499 for up to 10 mailboxes. One-time per job, nothing recurring.

Why are Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Zoho not covered at this price?

Because none of them give anyone a server-side mailbox backup to extract. That is a limit on their side, not a policy on ours. The only way to move them is an IMAP to IMAP sync followed by an MX cutover, which takes longer and depends on mailbox count, total size and how much history you want. We do those migrations; we just quote them separately instead of pretending they fit a flat rate.

Do both the source and destination have to be cPanel?

For this price, yes. cPanel or WHM on both ends is the fastest and most reliable route. Plesk, DirectAdmin and self-managed mail servers running Postfix, Dovecot, Exim or Cyrus can use the same backup and restore approach if they offer a mailbox archive export. If yours does not, we fall back to IMAP sync and quote that separately. Tell us what you are on and we will say which route applies.

How long does it take?

Under 10 mailboxes totalling less than about 5 GB is usually done within 24 hours. Ten to fifty mailboxes take 24 to 48 hours. A hundred or more, or 100 GB plus, runs over two to three days in batches of twenty to thirty, because pushing harder hits rate limits and slows the whole job. You get a WhatsApp update as each batch finishes.

What access do you need, and what happens to it afterwards?

Source cPanel admin access, or WHM for a multi-account job, plus destination access if the destination is not us. You do not need to collect passwords from your users: a cPanel backup carries the hashed passwords across, so everyone keeps signing in as before. Credentials you give us are stored encrypted and deleted once the migration is signed off, and we suggest changing them at your end afterwards anyway.

Are aliases, forwarders and filter rules preserved?

Yes, and this is the main reason we work from a server-side backup instead of an IMAP sync. Aliases such as info@ and orders@, forwarders, autoresponders, spam and filter rules, and mailing list settings all move with the mailboxes. An IMAP-only migration copies the messages but leaves all of that to be rebuilt by hand, which is where things get missed.

Will my old mailboxes be deleted?

No. We only take copies; the originals stay live and untouched throughout. After the destination is verified and MX has switched, you decide when to close the source, and there is no rush. Keeping the old account for a couple of weeks after cutover costs little and is a sensible safety net.

How do you make sure no email is lost during cutover?

The source keeps receiving mail until MX propagates, so nothing bounces meanwhile. We lower the MX TTL to 300 seconds a day ahead so propagation is quick, and once you sign off on the destination a final sync picks up anything that arrived during your testing. Then MX switches. Every message that arrives in the window ends up in a mailbox on the destination.

What should I check before I sign off?

Log into two or three mailboxes on the destination webmail yourself, ideally the busiest ones. Check the folder list matches, open something old to confirm history came across, and check that any alias or forwarder you rely on actually forwards. Five minutes of that is worth more than any report, and we do not touch MX until you are satisfied.

Can you migrate mailboxes for a client without them knowing it is you?

That is what the White Label tier is for. The final report and status emails carry your branding, an NDA is available, and your client never sees our name. It is aimed at agencies, IT consultants and hosting resellers who handle the client relationship themselves. Volume pricing applies from ten migrations a month.
